Dedicated Women Social Services Organization (DWSSO) is a women-led NGO based in Daikundi, Afghanistan, dedicated to empowering women, strengthening communities, and reducing poverty. Founded in 2016 and registered with the Ministry of Economy (No. 3969), DWSSO operates across multiple provinces, with a liaison office in Kabul for national and international collaboration.

The organization focuses on rights-based initiatives in food security, vocational training, literacy, livelihoods, and social protection, fostering self-reliance and economic empowerment. Aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Afghanistan’s National Development Strategy, DWSSO partners with international donors, UN agencies, and local networks to deliver culturally sensitive, impactful programs. Through its humanitarian commitment, DWSSO drives sustainable progress and social change in Afghanistan.\

The SBL Facilitator is responsible for teaching literacy and vocational skills to youth and adults in a community-based setting. Over a 6-month program, the Facilitator helps learners acquire functional literacy (reading, writing, numeracy) alongside practical livelihood skills, ensuring they can apply their knowledge in daily life or income-generating activities.

  • Training & Preparation: Attend required training sessions and ensure mastery of teaching methods before leading classes. Set up and maintain a clean, safe learning space.
  • Course Delivery: Conduct classes as scheduled, covering literacy, numeracy, and vocational skills such as agriculture, tailoring, or first aid. Use participatory teaching methods to engage learners.
  • Learner Support: Adapt teaching to different learning paces, provide extra tutoring as needed, and create an inclusive, respectful classroom environment.
  • Attendance & Evaluation: Track attendance, follow up on absentees, and conduct assessments to measure progress in literacy and skills.
  • Resource Management & Reporting: Manage class materials, ensure proper use of toolkits, and report any needs or challenges to the District Community Mobilizer. Assist with program evaluations and graduation events.
  • Course Completion: Deliver the full 6-month SBL curriculum, with all literacy, numeracy, and livelihood lessons covered, documented through lesson plans or checklists.
  • Learner Records: Maintain attendance and assessment records, ensuring high retention and submitting final attendance and test scores to project management.
  • Learning Outcomes: Demonstrate learner progress through baseline and end-line assessments, with a significant percentage improving in literacy and numeracy.
  • Skill Proficiency: Ensure each learner demonstrates their new skill (e.g., tailoring a garment, planning poultry farming) and provide a summary of skill outcomes, including photos if applicable.
  • Material Management: Complete an inventory handover, ensuring reusable tools are returned and consumables distributed per protocol.
  • Final Report: Submit a summary of class progress, challenges, successes, and recommendations for future programs.
  • Community Impact: Help establish the learning space as a lasting educational resource for future programs or community initiatives.

Job Requirements

  • Education: Minimum 12th grade; additional teaching certificates or vocational training preferred.
  • Teaching Experience: 1-3 years of experience teaching adults or youth, especially in literacy or non-formal education.
  • Skill Expertise: Practical experience in the class’s vocational skill (e.g., tailoring, poultry farming, first aid).
  • Community Standing: Trusted local member with a good reputation; prior volunteer work is a plus.
  • Communication & Teaching: Clear, patient communicator using interactive methods and local resources.
  • Cultural Sensitivity: Aware of local norms, especially regarding gender; female facilitators preferred for women’s classes.
  • Reliability & Reporting: Punctual, organized, able to maintain records and write brief reports in the local language.
  • Adaptability & Motivation: Resourceful in low-resource settings, committed to education, and supportive of learners.
