Humanitarian Visa for Afghan Citizens
The Brazilian Embassy in Tehran informs that, based on Decree No. 42/2023 of the Federal Government of Brazil, the humanitarian visa program for Afghan nationals has been suspended as of October 1, 2023. The Embassy is currently not accepting any new applications until a new decision is made by the Brazilian government regarding the status of the humanitarian visa program. New information and policies will be announced and published on this webpage accordingly.
The Federal Government of Brazil is currently evaluating and compiling a list of humanitarian organizations in Brazil that can issue new appointments for Afghan citizens. Once the list of approved humanitarian organizations is available, it will be published on this webpage.
The Consular Section is required to prioritize the following three groups of Afghan visa applicants:
Group 1) Afghans who had been interviewed, and whose visas had already been approved by Brazil, and who had left their passports at the Consular Section a long time ago. Visas for most of these applicants have already been issued and handed over to the Afghans. A few applicants are still under review, and it is hoped that their visas will be issued before May 4, 2024. The Consular Section will soon notify these applicants to collect their passports from the Embassy.
Group 2) Afghans who have been interviewed and whose visa approvals were received from Brazil before April 22, 2024. They will be contacted through WhatsApp or mobile phone with a suitable timeline to submit their passports to the Embassy.
Group 3) Afghans who have been interviewed but have not yet been informed about the status of their visa. The Embassy will notify this group of Afghans that the Consular Section is working hard to obtain the final visa approval from Brazil, and they will do so. Accordingly, they will be contacted via WhatsApp or mobile phone after June 16, 2024, with a suitable timeline for submitting their passports to the Embassy.
